Common Questions
CPE Eligibility — Common Questions
What is CPE?
Most U.S. states require continuing professional education (CPE) for certified public accountants (CPAs) to maintain active licenses. The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy's (NASBA's) Regulatory Compliance Services division offers several programs that assist state boards and their licensees by determining high-quality CPE providers. The National Registry of CPE Sponsors (Registry) lists organizations that provide high-quality CPE in accordance with nationally recognized standards.
KPMG LLP is registered with NASBA as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credits.
What are the eligibility requirements for continuing professional education (CPE) credits?
- Participants must view the entire original, live Webcast event — usually 60 to 90 minutes in length.
- Participants must reside in the United States. (For the list of the state boards of accountancy accepting CPE credit, visit the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy Web site at www.nasba.org.)
- When registering for the event, you must select "Yes" to the "Would you like to receive CPE credit for attending this event?" question.
- To receive CPE credit for an event, your name must appear on the event attendee list and you must have answered the appropriate number of polling questions per hour.
- To ensure that your name appears on the event attendee list, you will need to individually log on to the session; or, for those listening via teleconference, you will need to individually dial in and provide your contact information to the call operator.
- A group of participants viewing a Webcast projected from a single computer will not be granted CPE credit as only the sole individual who logged into the Webcast on the computer, or the sole individual who dialed into the event via teleconference will receive CPE credit for this session — and not the group as a whole who viewed the Webcast. Each individual attending an event must log on or dial in for themselves in order to be CPE eligible.

How many polling questions must I answer during an event to qualify for CPE credit?
- To qualify for CPE credit, participants must answer 80 percent of all questions asked during each hour of an event. Typically, 8-10 questions are provided for a one-hour Webcast, and 12-15 questions for a two-hour Webcast.
When will the polling questions start to appear during an event?
- The first polling question during a Webcast typically appears around 5 minutes after the start of the Webcast, and subsequent questions are released in 7- to 10-minute intervals thereafter.
Will my answers to the polling questions be graded?
- Both correct and incorrect answers to the polling questions will be accepted.
How can I disable my pop-up blocker to enable the polling questions?
- Every pop-up blocker is different. However, you should have an option under your Internet Explorer® tools options section. Check with your Information Technology department to obtain the correct setting for your Internet browser/blocker.

Can I still qualify for CPE credit if I did not pre-register for the event?
